How to Install - The Virtual Study Bible Plugin

How to Install

It seems some random WordPress volunteer rejected the plugin, insisting that it be completely gutted, to the point of being useless, before it could be approved. Also, they claimed I was forever banned from offering any future plugins until I gutted this plugin. (whether power-hungry or simply an anti-Christian bigot, I couldn't tell.)

So, for now, it will be offered here, as is (pending any updates I may make) for anyone to install. I plan to add a feature within the plugin to check for updates and notify the site admin that an update is available. Currently, that is not offered, so please check back to this site for any notifications regarding updates.

The following instructions will help you download and install the plugin to your site.

It should be noted that I have consistently tried to maintain the security of the plugin and checked it with WordPress's own Plugin Check plugin for conformity (although, that the "official" Plugin Check plugin will not allow itself to be checked, I find suspicious). The Plugin Check is notoriously strict, and I can't find a single plugin that passes it completely. However, I have been coding for over 30 years, so I understand security very well. All measures to prevent exploits have been taken to ensure this plugin is 100% safe.

Step #1: Download the Plugin...

The latest version of the plugin is always available from my GitHub Repository. You can also download the zip file directly, but note the file name will be "the-virtual-study-bible-main.zip" and not "the-virtual-study-bible.zip". But, remember where you downloaded it to.

Step #2: Add the plugin to WordPress...

Log into the Admin of your WordPress site. Go to Plugins, then to  "Add New Plugin". There you'll click on the "Upload Plugin" button.

You'll then be given an upload form like this...

Click "Choose File", locate the downloaded zip file, and select it. Then the form will change to...

Now, click on the "Install Now" button and wait for the plugin to install. Soon you'll see this...

Step #3: Install Modules and choose settings...

So, click "Activate Plugin" and as it's activated, the plugin will take you to the initial settings page, which will look like this...

Because of the complexity of this plugin, I have divided it into Modules. The initial Module "Books of the Bible, Book Introductions and Outlines" was installed when the plugin was installed. However, two more required Modules (The King James Bible and Strong's Hebrew and Greek Lexicons) need to be installed. The King James Modules should only take about a minute to download and install. The Strong's Module downloads three separate files and then creates three separate database tables (the Hebrew Lexicon, the Greek Lexicon and a Lexicon Word Index) so it takes a little longer. Don't worry, I've provided a visual progress notifications so you can see how the Module installation is progressing.

Once the two required Modules are installed, click “Next  ” to go to the optional Modules...

These are Modules you can add, or not, depending on what you want to provide for your site's visitors.

Easton's Bible Dictionary is used in a Word Search to provide, if available, the Easton's definition for that word...

The Holman Cross-Reference and Passage Outline are illustrated below...

Again, these are optional, and you don't have to include them, but they are very handy.

The Interlinear Bible contains both the Greek (Textus Receptus) and Hebrew (Masoretic) versions of the Bible, tagged to the translation (the Strong's number).

Mousing over (or clicking, on mobile) a word in the right pane, highlights the matching word on the left page (the verse is underlined and the word is highlighted in yellow), and also gives additional information, above the Hebrew or Greek word in a tool-tip...

Clicking “Next  ” again will take you to the Page Name / Styles section.

The Page Name is automatically set to "Study Bible", but you can change that if you want to.

The Styles offer three style types for the passage display.  Traditional, Paragraph and The Reader's Bible.

They are initially all selected, but you can unselect any at this point and it will not be offered on your site.

At this point, your Modules are loaded, the Page Name has been set and the Styles and been selected. However, your [page doesn't exist yet. Clicking “Next  ” again takes you to the final step of the installation. Check out what you've selected, and if it looks good, click “Submit & Publish ” to create the page your Study Bible will live on.

Once published, you'll notice a new tab on the Settings menu.

This is a handy link to your new Virtual Study Bible!

At any time you can revisit the Settings Page and change anything you want. You can install Modules you skipped the first time, or disable (optional) modules you decide you don't want. All these will be applied instantly.
